10 Reasons To Choose the Chase Sapphire Reserve (including the 2020 updates!)
If you travel, or hope to travel more, it’s time to get a credit card with travel perks. There are the “big three,” but I’ve had the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card for a few years and can verify it has been a fantastic travel must-have. Below is why I love the card and tips for how to use it!
- $300 annual travel credit reimbursement helps to justify the $550 annual credit card fee right off the bat.
- An extra push to get TSA Pre-Check and/or Global Entry. You still have to go through the application process but Chase reimburses the $85 and $100 fee respectively. Might as well go with Global Entry if you have the option.
- Priority Pass Select Lounges – seriously a game changer. Before trips, I check if airports and terminals have a lounge. I would say it’s been about 50/50. There are some airports that don’t have lounges but instead offer credit at restaurants, which is even better.
- No foreign transaction fees. Those fees add up quick!
- POINTS! When you sign up, make sure it’s during a time when you’ll get 50,000 bonus sign-up points (the equivalent of about $750-$1,000). My trips to New Zealand and Egypt came down to pretty much nothing thanks to these points. From there, its 3x points on travel and dining.
- Return policy for items up to $500 within 90 days if the merchant won’t refund the purchase.
- Covers the not so fun aspects of travel including car rental, trip cancellation, delays that last more than 6 hours and lost-luggage insurance
- Hotel deals and extras through their Luxury Hotel & Resort Collection program. Benefits can include free meals, early/late check ins and other potential perks.
- Travel agent and concierge for when you’re in a bind or just want someone else to handle logistics. It’s just a known fact that if someone calls “on behalf of Ms Jones” you’re move likely to be treated like a VIP.
- It’s a metal card so it’s got the “cool” factor.
* As of January 13th, 2020: cardholders will receive the following additional benefits:
- Doordash credit and unlimited deliveries without a fee
- 10x the points on Lyft and one year of Lyft Pink membership (valued at $19.99 per month)
