Not your first time in NYC? Here’s what to do this time around!

I recommend everywhere on this post, but if the most popular landmarks already have check marks on your list, consider these alternative destinations!

If it IS your first time in New York City, check out this itinerary!

The Frick Collection over The Met Museum

Housed in Henry Clay Frick’s former residence on Fifth Avenue, the Frick is a nationally recognized museum known for its distinguished Old Master paintings and outstanding examples of European sculpture and decorative arts.  Another suggestion: the Met Cloisters are also a lesser-known extension of the MET museum with medieval artwork and architecture inspired by the Middle Ages.

The Whitney over The MoMa

The Whitney is dedicated to living American artists located along the Hudson River.  From here you can hop on the High Line or explore the Hudson River Park.

Greenpoint over Dumbo

Brooklyn is a really cool borough and should be a destination. Greenpoint is the lessor known neighborhood along the East River but has trendy restaurants, bars and converted-warehouse galleries, roof decks with views of the city.

The Battery over Central Park

Away from the hustle and bustle, The Battery is located on the southern end of Manhattan Island, with tranquil gardens and views of the Statue of Liberty.  From here, it’s also an easy walk to 9/11 Memorial and Museum.

The Press Lounge view over Empire State or Top of the Rock.

Located in the Ink48 Hotel and open year-round, the rooftop Press Lounge is ideal for cocktails and 360-degree views.

Little Cupcake Bakeshop over Magnolia’s

New Yorkers love Little Cupcake, a bakery that offers wholesome traditionally American desserts using only the freshest, sustainable and predominately local ingredients. The chocolate banana cake is a favorite!

Governors Island over Ellis Island

Governors Island is open in the summer and accessible via ferry. There are more parks and exhibits to explore via bike, but with the same epic views of Manhattan and the Statue of Liberty.

Arthur Avenue Retail Market over Chelsea Market

Arthur Ave has an authentic Italian selection with nine restaurants, pastry shops, butchers, delis and a beer hall in the Bronx.

Artists and Fleas over 5th Ave shopping

Open in Chelsea, Soho and Williamsburg, Artists and Fleas is a retail experience that includes design, fashion, vintage items and a trove of treasures.  As an honorable mention, keep an eye out for designer Sample Sales that pop up throughout the city!

Don’t Tell Mama’s over Ellen’s Stardust Diner

Don’t Tell Mama is a piano bar, restaurant and cabaret showroom.  It’s more personal and a fun night out with great performances and some (just slightly offensive) humor thrown in. Marie’s Crisis Cafe will do the trick too!

Community Gardens over New York Botanical Garden

New York Botanical Garden is a treasure and you should absolutely go if given the chance. However, there are many smaller private or publicly owned estates and gardens in Manhattan.  Some of my favorite hidden gems include St. Luke in the Fields, the Jefferson Market Garden, 6BC and West 111th Street People’s Garden.
