Why you should go to Doha instead of Dubai!

Doha, the capital of Qatar, is the “little sister” city to Dubai.  While Dubai offers ample accolades and record-breaking landmarks including the best hotel, tallest building and largest mall by total area, visitors in Doha won’t be disappointed with the Arabic-inspired architecture, waterfront sand dunes and authentic Middle-Eastern attractions.

  1. Not the largest in the world, the Villaggio Mall makes up for its just above average size with opulent Venetian-style interiors and an indoor canal with gondola rides.
  2. The finest hotel in Doha, The Torch, offers several dining options including a soaring Sky Lounge, Tea Garden, the revolving restaurant THREE SIXTY and live cooking stations at the aptly named Flying Carpet.
  3. The clubs are extravagant with live music, décor and tippity top shelf liquor. Toro Toro is a favorite!
  4. For unique scenery, the Al Thakira Mangroves Forest looks like a mirage in an endless desert. This area of vegetation has its own ecosystem and awesome wildlife that includes flamingos and herons. A great way to explore the mangroves is by kayak!
  5. Dhow boats are the traditional Qatari sailing boats that were used by merchants and fishermen.  Starting just before sunset, these boats set sail along the harbor with incredible views of the city.  Short trips or longer excursions with meals are available.
  6. Souq Waqif is a booming marketplace with a myriad of jewelry, gold, oils, spices with food stalls, shisha lounges, art galleries and antique stores sprinkled throughout. The Falconry Souq is next door if you’ve been curious about the practices or exercise of falcons, or you happen to be in the market for one.
  7. Museum of Islamic Art is a world class museum located on its very own island, with a permanent collection including exquisite textiles, ceramics, enamel work and glass, and rotating exhibitions, classes and workshops offered.
  8. The Inland Sea in Qatar is one of only two places in the world where the sand dunes touch the open sea. The desert adventures offer plenty of opportunities to ride camels, 4x4s, horses or go for a good ol’ Desert Glamping Safari.  Doha definitely wins this round with beautiful scenery and more bedouin-style camps.

But if Dubai is still on the list, check out this luxury-induced itinerary or budget friendly option!
